The general consensus among the critics is that the 2009 Croix de Beaucaillou is the finest vintage to date of this noble estate’s ‘second’ wine. The Grand Vin is being subjected to an increasingly stricter selection process, with only about 50% of the vineyard production going into the final Ducru. The balance is used in the ‘Croix’. This 2009 is made of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot and was aged in 60% new oak, and the rest one year old barrels.
